I'd like to thank all colleagues here today to discuss the legislative consent motion for the Absent Voting (Elections in Scotland and Wales) Bill.

Hoffwn roi rhywfaint o gefndir y Bil a pham ei fod yn gam pwysig tuag at foderneiddio, cysoni a gwella mynediad at bleidleisio absennol ar gyfer etholiadau a gynhelir yma yng Nghymru.

I'd just like to provide some background on the Bill and why it's an important step towards modernising, harmonising and improving access to absent voting for elections held here in Wales.

Cyflwynodd Deddf Etholiadau 2022 system ymgeisio ar-lein ar gyfer gwneud cais am bleidleisiau absennol, sef pleidleisiau post neu ddirprwy, ar gyfer etholiadau cyffredinol y DU ac etholiadau comisiynydd yr heddlu a throseddu.

The Elections Act 2022 introduced an online application system to apply for absent votes, meaning postal or proxy votes, for UK general elections and police and crime commissioner elections.

As a result, for local government in Wales and Senedd elections, voters can only apply for absent votes through paper application forms.
