About the project

blas is a purpose-built language learning app for the Celtic languages. We made it because we believe that an encouraging approach to learning, combined with technology, can grow these languages: Irish, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Breton, Cornish, and Manx. There are brilliant resources out there for all six, but they tend to be intimidating and obscure, which is part of why these languages don't have a broader base of speakers.

An app like Duolingo might not have you learning at the optimal level or pace, but it encourages you and makes you believe you're a learner. We think blas brings that same encouragement, while also being the centre of your learning. Our goal is to build new tech and resources that help your learning, and tools you use every day to get more out of the language.
