Item 6 is the legislative consent motion on the Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill.

Thank you very much for this opportunity to explain the background to the legislative consent motion for the Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill, and to outline the reasons why I believe it deserves the support of the Senedd.

I welcome the resurrection of key pet import provisions as a Government-backed private Member’s Bill, and the Government has written to the UK Government to express our support for the Bill.
