Tynwald Day is the national day of the Isle of Man. It is usually observed on 5 July, or on the following Monday if 5 July falls on a Saturday or Sunday. On that day the Island's legislature, Tynwald, meets at St John's instead of Douglas, partly in the open air on Tynwald Hill. The meeting dates back to the 10th century and is known as Midsummer Court; Tynwald Day was traditionally held on 24 June, Midsummer Day. Culture Vannin records customs involving rushes and herbs, among them bollan bane, mugwort.
