Galway is the unofficial capital of Irish-language Ireland. Neighbouring the Connemara Gaeltacht — the largest in the country — you can hear Irish on the streets, in shops, and in pubs any day of the week. It is the most naturally bilingual city in Ireland.
Galway's Connemara Gaeltacht has over 20,000 daily Irish speakers
TG4 (the Irish-language TV station) broadcasts from Baile na hAbhann just outside the city. NUI Galway requires all students to have a basic level of Irish. The Galway Gaeltacht stretches from Spiddal to Carraroe and Carna, with thousands of native speakers.
