Blas API

One API for Celtic language tech.

Grammar and writing help, Irish speech-to-text, and English-to-Celtic translation — the in-house Blas models, reachable with a single key. Free for community and non-commercial use; a commercial plan or licence for products.

The models

Three in-house models, one key. Each is built on commercial-safe foundations and kept as open as we can. Raw model output is always marked as a draft — it never replaces native-speaker review in learner-facing content.

Grammar + writing assist

Blas Writing

On-device grammar, mutation, and spelling help for the six Celtic languages and English. A conservative, source-backed writing assistant.

Speech-to-text

Blas Voice

Open Irish dictation, ranked #1 on the BlasBench leaderboard. Speak Irish, get text in about a second.

Try dictation →

Machine translation

Blas Translate

English into the six Celtic languages: Irish, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Manx, Cornish, and Breton. Cornish is the most developed; the others are earlier. Every line is a draft for review, not a substitute for a fluent speaker.

Free for the community

Learners, teachers, researchers, and non-commercial community projects can use every model free. Paid commercial access funds more native review and recording.

Free, non-commercial

  • Personal learning projects and classroom materials
  • Community language tools that are not sold or monetised
  • Academic research, benchmarks, and citations
  • Low-volume dictation, grammar, and translation experiments shared free of charge

Needs a commercial licence

  • Commercial apps, paid courses, publishing products, or SaaS features
  • Commercial speech-to-text, captioning, grammar correction, or translation workflows
  • Reselling, mirroring, or redistributing the corpus as a dataset or API
  • Training, fine-tuning, or evaluating commercial speech, language, or AI models
  • Voice cloning or speaker imitation outside a written Blas licence

One commercial licence, scoped to what you're building: apps, publishing, dictation, grammar, translation, dataset access, or model licences. Contact us for terms and pricing.

How access works

  1. 1Sign in to Blas and request a key from POST /api/community/v1/keys.
  2. 2Send the key in an Authorization: Bearer header, or as x-api-key.
  3. 3Keep the key private. Blas stores only a hash and cannot show the key again.

Terms
  • Do not share keys, bypass quotas, scrape around the API, or remove provenance metadata.
  • Do not redistribute audio files, bulk corpus dumps, or API responses as a competing dataset or service.
  • Do not train, fine-tune, evaluate, or ship speech, language, grammar, or writing-assist models with API output unless your written licence explicitly allows it.
  • Do not use audio to clone, imitate, or identify a contributor's voice outside a written Blas licence.
  • We may meter usage, suspend keys, rotate endpoints, and remove withdrawn or disputed contributions from future responses.
  • Credit Blas, keep provenance metadata visible where practical, and do not imply endorsement by contributors or reviewers.
  • Respect withdrawal notices in later release manifests and refresh to a current release when you update your data.
