The Slieve League cliffs in Donegal rise nearly 600 metres from the Atlantic, making them among the highest sea cliffs in Europe and almost three times the height of the Cliffs of Moher. The name comes from the Irish Sliabh Liag, meaning “mountain of the flagstones.” An ancient pilgrim path called One Man’s Pass runs along the narrow cliff-top ridge to a ruined oratory near the summit, where early Christian monks came to pray at the edge of the known world.
