The Slea Head Drive is a 47km loop from Dingle town around the westernmost tip of the Dingle Peninsula — Iron Age forts, beehive huts, the Gallarus Oratory (a 7th-century stone church still waterproof after 1,300 years without mortar), and views straight out to the Blasket Islands and Skellig Michael. The whole area is a Gaeltacht where Irish is still the everyday language. St Brendan supposedly set off from Brandon Creek on this coast around 520 AD to sail to America, nearly a thousand years before Columbus.
